# How to request money

A request for payment is how you ask someone to pay you. You pick a person from your contacts, enter the amount, say what it's for, and send the request. If they pay it, the money goes to the account you chose when you created the request.

Requests are for people you know: splitting a dinner bill, settling up on rent, or getting paid back for concert tickets.

## Steps to request money

1. Open the app you use for Moov Money and choose **Request**
1. Pick the person you want to request money from. Requests go to people in your contacts, so you'll choose from your contact list.
1. Enter the **amount** you're asking for.
1. Add a short **note** saying what the request is for, like "brunch" or "March rent". The person you're asking sees this note, so keep it clear and specific.
1. Choose where the money should go if the request is paid. This is set when you create the request and can't be changed afteward.
1. Confirm the request.
1. **Share the request** with the person you're asking, usually by text message.

## What the other person sees

They get a link that opens the request, showing your name, the amount, and your note. They verify their phone number, then can pay you back with a debit card or decline to pay. They don't need to have Moov Money set up before they can pay.

The link looks like this:

## Good to know

- There are **no fees** to request or receive money for personal use.
- A request is valid for **10 days**. If it isn't paid in that time, it expires and nothing is charged.
- You can **cancel** a request while it's still waiting. See How to cancel a request
- Sending a request never moves money on its own. Nothing happens until the other person chooses to pay.
- If someone has blocked you, your request won't go through. See How to block or unblock someone
