# Understanding request statuses

A request for payment moves through a few stages between the moment you send it and the moment the money reaches you. Here's what each one means.

## Request statuses

- **Waiting to be paid. **The request has been created and the link is ready. The other person hasn't opened it yet. You can still cancel it.
- **Opened.** The other person opened the request and verified their phone number, but hasn't paid yet.
- **Declined. **The other person chose not to pay. No money moved. If you think that was a mistake, talk to them directly and send a new request.
- **Cancelled.** You cancelled the request before it was paid. The link no longer works.
- **Expired.** The request wasn't paid within 10 days, so it closed on its own. No money moved.
- **Payment on the way.** The other person paid and the money is on its way to the account you chose.
- **Completed.** The money has reached your account. When it becomes available can depend on your bank.
- **Couldn't be created**. The request was stopped before it reached the other person. This happens when something about the request looks unsafe, or when the person you asked doesn't accept requests from you.

## Good to know

- You can cancel a request while it's waiting or after it's been opened, but not once it's been paid. See [How to cancel a request](/help/requesting-money/how-to-cancel-a-request/)
- A paid request can't be reversed. Only pay and request money from people you know.
